In Windows XP, shortcuts are a great thing. One thing that is kind of irritating is that every shortcut has that little arrow plastered on the icon (so you can tell it’s a shortcut). If you would like to remove the shortcut arrows from your desktop icons, follow this guide:

Disclaimer: Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. Modify the registry at your own risk, Every effort has been made to ensure that registry edit instructions are correct and safe. Before beginning this guide, please do this

Click backupreg_01.jpg,

then backupreg_02.jpg

Type regedit then click backupreg_03.jpg

Navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile

Thanks!!! I had this on another machine (currently unavailable) and last night the hated arrows reappeared on 2 of my icons but not the rest, and I needed the info again. Great site - have it bookmarked now! :grin
