The Alerter subkey stores configuration data for the Alerter service. This service sends messages to users warning them of impending resource, security, or access problems on the server. The messages appear in a message box on the user's display. Typically, the Alerter service alerts users when a printer is running out of paper or the disk on a file server is nearly full.

Translation

This is what causes those system pop-ups. System pop ups are not the same as internet pop-ups, which are bad. System pop-ups, basically, are friendly reminders about something that is going on with your computer. You know, the ones that tell you that the printer is out of paper or you are running low on virtual memory.

Here is how to set the Alerter service to Disabled (Yes, I do realize that there are other ways to do this):

Click backupreg_01.jpg then backupreg_02.jpg Type cmd then click backupreg_03.jpg

alerter1.jpg

At the command prompt type the following:
sc config alerter start= disabled

*note: there are a total of 4 spaces in the above command that are important. If you miss putting in a space the command will not work. Yes, There is a space after ‘start=’

If for some reason you need to revert back to old setting. You can change this service back to the default setting by doing this:

Click backupreg_01.jpg then backupreg_02.jpg Type cmd then click backupreg_03.jpg

alerter1.jpg

At the command prompt type the following:
sc config alerter start= demand
