Type CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2 then click
Select the user/users to which you want to be able to autologon, and uncheck Users Must Enter A User Name and Password To Use This Computer
Click Apply, then You will have to type in the current password. Then Reboot and the computer should now autolog you on. (Note: for XP Home Edition, don’t select to auto login as the Built In Administrator , you will get restriction errors) Comments (2)

Thanks for the visual. I share a computer with a Russian language setup, so not being a fluent reader/speaker of the language the visuals pointed me in the right direction.

Thank god for your instructions!!! I don't recall what I did to get the password prompt every time I turned on my computer, but I could not get rid of it! It was maddening! When you pull a Hewlett-Packard out of its carton and turn it on there is instant desktop, so, by default, a Hewlett-Packard instantly produces a desktop without the rigmarole of passwords.
