The Net Passport allows you to create your sign in credentials (e-mail and password) once, then use them everywhere on the Microsoft Passport Network. If Windows XP keeps popping up with messages claiming that you need Net Passport and you want to disable the message, you can by following this guide (don't worry, you don't need Net Passport, this is just a Microsoft marketing strategy).
